A Glimpse of our Past...
Mr. Luis Señora, “Tay Luis” to many is a teacher of heart. He put up a “caton” or a
“catolica” class in Paulba. Some say, the small “Camalig” was situated where Paulba Rice
Mill is at present. Most of the pupils were already teenagers.

Right after liberation, schools were opened in most barrios. The school site was hilly and
grown with tall cogon grass, but the parents of the children as well as the inhabitants of Paulba
worked so hard in leveling the ground then constructed rooms made of bamboo and nipa. The
pioneer teacher was Mrs. Maria Relacion. In three-year time, the school was under a Head
Teacher, Mr. Benito M. Obra. In a span of less than five years, Paulba Elementary School
was already under the first principal assigned in the person of Mr. Prudencio Rañola.
Unexpectedly, enrolment steadily rose up to almost 800 with a teaching staff of 21 personnel.

Due to the opening of schools in the neighboring barangays, school’s population had
minimally decreased. Paulba was also the very first barangay in Ligao having an Elementary
School Principal and one of the first barangays in the Province of Albay to put-up a barangay
high school.

The school site covers an area of 3.5 hectares. One hectare was donated by Mr. Felipe
Repomanta and the 2.5 hectares was bought through the effort of the P.T.A.

It offers complete elementary with a total of 14 classes including the Kindergarten classes.
At present, it has an enrolment of 530 pupils with 15 regular permanent teachers, headed by a
School Principal.
